GIGI (Cynthia Calvi, France, 2024, 14´)
From the tormented little mermaid to the accomplished woman she is today, Gigi tells us about her gender transition with humor and sensitivity. After studying at the EMCA in Angoulême, Cynthia Calvi has directed four animated short films. Gigi, her latest work, is produced by Xbo Films in collaboration with Studio des Affranchis in Toulouse.
LACK (Pawel Prewencki, Poland, 2023, 10´)
The film tells a very personal story about the loneliness, anger and pain experienced by parents who lose a child. It is an intimate and emotional visualization of a situation for which no one is prepared and in which the reactions we have known up to that moment become useless.
THE MIRACLE (Nienke Deutz, Belgium, 2023, 15´)
The Miracle is a place where the sun always shines, with endless opportunities to relax and food in abundance. But how do you relate to a place that constantly confronts you with the things you don't have? Combining 2D and stop motion animation for a short film that explores denied motherhood with optimism and a sense of humor.
OBOK (OUTSIDE) (Izabela Plucinska, Poland, 2023, 5´)
The story of domestic violence that happens every day behind closed doors and whose inspiration came from a German newspaper article entitled "The numbers are frightening". In Obok, our heroine deals with violence in a different way.
FELINA (María Lorenzo, Spain, 2024, 12´)
Felina is a woman capable of becoming a panther, or perhaps a panther capable of becoming a woman. She lives in love with a blind pianist to whom she does not want to reveal her condition. However, one day she receives unexpected news: she is pregnant with cubs. Felina tells us about the most primal love that transforms us in the key moments of life.
BEAUTIFUL MEN (Nicolas Keppens, France-Belgium, 2023, 19’)
Three bald brothers travel to Istanbul to undergo a hair transplant. Stuck in a hotel far from home, their insecurities grow faster than their hair. The inspiration for the short film came after a visit by its director to Istanbul, with the hotel full of bald men waiting for their transplant.
