Matadero Madrid continues the programme of outdoor cultural activities in Plaza Matadero that has fast become a tradition.
For the fourth year in a row, Summer in Plaza Matadero, sponsored by Mahou Cinco Estrellas, aims to breathe life into Matadero Madrid’s public space over the summer season, focusing on two main objectives: showcasing young curators and artists from the local and national underground scene; and providing a venue that gives them an opportunity, via an open public competition, to experiment with new practices relating to cultural production in public spaces.
This year, Summer in Plaza Matadero will be held from 8pm until 11pm every Friday and Saturday from 31 July to 29 August. Once again it will host a number of free music and art activities, securing its place as one of the city’s not-to-be-missed summer events.
On Fridays, Plaza Matadero will display the projects that have been selected in the open public competition, which is entitled Where will you go when the party is over?. This initiative by Matadero Madrid and Grupal Crew Collective consists of a programme of activities that views partying as an interactive process as well as a medium for transmitting different cultures. On Saturday nights, curators Nuevo Sitio / Materia Oscura will imbue Plaza Matadero with the spirit of raditional neighbourhood festivities, in the form of a contemporary verbena (open-air dance).
These fun and festive summer events will take place under the Escaravox structures designed by architect Andrés Jaque.

In addition, every day Plaza Matadero will be the permanent site of Foto Plaza, by Berto Fojo and Irkus M. Zeberio, and of El Fabuloso Lote, a gift basket raffled off by Nacho García.
