During L.E.V. Matadero, Nave 10 at Matadero Madrid will host four double sessions of live sets and audiovisual performances. The Friday, September 19 program features Team Rolfes w/ Lil Mariko and Carmen Jaci & Matthew Schoen.
For the first time at L.E.V. Matadero, Team Rolfes presents 321 Rule, a project from the New York-based studio known for its singular visual and performative language that has revolutionized the use of motion-capture and real-time animation to create immersive experiences fusing virtual and physical worlds. Their work explores the body, image, and sound in the digital age.
Founded by directors Sam Rolfes and Andy Rolfes, the studio is a pioneer in VR puppetry, real-time captured abstract avatars, and hybrid visual collages that translate the nuances of human movement into visceral, high-energy imagery. Their practice spans an impressive range of formats: from live shows that combine animation with improvised comedy, to visuals for global stages and underground events, album covers, music videos, fashion collection design, and immersive experiences for international clients.
Over the years, Team Rolfes has collaborated with artists like Lady Gaga, Danny Elfman, Holly Herndon, Denzel Curry, Amnesia Scanner, Lunice, Arca, and Caroline Polachek, and has featured at festivals and events such as MoMA, Berlin Atonal, CTM Festival, and Unsound Festival, among many others. They’ve also created projects for brands and studios like Nike, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Chopard, and produced content for Adult Swim and Super Deluxe.
At L.E.V. Matadero 2025, artists Carmen Jaci and Matthew Schoen join forces in an immersive audiovisual performance exploring the emotional and aesthetic complexities of our relationship with digital systems, data, and algorithms.
Through a non-linear narrative where sound and visuals interact in real time, the duo offers a poetic and critical reflection on identity in an age saturated with information. This transdisciplinary collaboration turns personal and social data into a work in which the intimate and the technological become deeply intertwined.
From her beginnings in electronic music production, Carmen Jaci has incorporated personal data collection and measurement into her artistic practice—focusing on themes such as labor precarity, uncertainty, and anxiety about the future. These recordings become raw material for a sociopolitical discourse that resonates within Matthew Schoen’s visual universe, resulting in a fluid audiovisual conversation between sound and form.
The outcome is a constellation of visual and sonic stimuli that evokes both childlike curiosity toward digital networks and the surreal, disorienting nature of identities increasingly shaped by automated systems. Through graphic interfaces inspired by mobile apps, the piece translates everyday digital routines into an audiovisual language rich in sensitivity and critique.
