Angels who dragged their wings through shadowy corners.

Like the pícaros of theatrical tradition, they appear more alive than ever in this piece that speaks of looking at the periphery—and looking from the periphery—to see the sky. A luminous universe regarding what awaits us next. La Zaranda embarks on its journey at Nave 10, a hub for contemporary Spanish playwriting.

With Todos los ángeles alzaron el vuelo, the company celebrates 48 years on stages worldwide, remaining the longest-running active Spanish company—a feat perhaps achieved by always swimming against the current. This play, which premiered in March 2025 at the Teatro de Rojas in Toledo, is dedicated to their colleague Laura Gómez-Lacueva, one of the company’s cornerstone actresses. Eusebio Calonge gives a voice to those who go unheard. On stage are the marginalized: those who do not belong to the welfare state, those always on the verge of disappearing, living in industrial estates, vacant lots, or on the edge of a doorway—in short, the people without a place. Only La Zaranda, with its satirical and transcendent theater, can offer us a glimmer of hope for the journey we will all undertake, even before it arrives.
