Women Against Disinformation Edit-a-thon with Carolina Pecharromán

On this occasion, Wikiesfera, in collaboration with Medialab Matadero, invites you to participate in an edit-a-thon aimed at publishing Wikipedia articles about women journalists and communicators.

To introduce the topic, we will feature journalist and historian Carolina Pecharromán de la Cruz. Associated with Televisión Española (TVE) for over thirty years, she has served as Equality Editor for TVE News Services and coordinator of the RTVE Igualdad platform since 2020. Between 2021 and 2026, she directed and presented the show Objetivo Igualdad, which received numerous awards for promoting true gender equality and fighting gender-based violence.

In this session, Carolina will speak to us about the women pioneers of journalism at a time when information moves faster than ever, and where hoaxes, manipulated content, and AI-generated text constantly compete for our attention against the rigorous work of dedicated reporters.

This activity is part of the Wikiesfera working group, which strives to bridge the gender gap on Wikipedia. It is coordinated by Patricia Horrillo, who launched the citizen journalism research track at Medialab-Prado in 2014.

Program & Approach

During the session, which begins at 11:00 AM, we will have the opportunity to learn together:

• Introductory Wikipedia Workshop: Acquire the fundamental skills required to create and edit articles.
• Addressing the Gender Gap: Analyze the issues stemming from gender disparity in digital environments and their impact on how historical female figures are perceived. We will discuss the vital importance of giving visibility to women and their works within a collaborative space like Wikipedia, consulted daily by millions of users, including students and journalists.
• Information Gathering & Writing: Learn how to collect and structure relevant sources to draft biographic entries for Wikipedia.
• Content Creation: Dedicate the hands-on session to creating articles focused on women journalists and communicators.
