Mar Guerrero

La llamada del instinto (The Call of Instinct)

Comprising the production of both an audiovisual piece and a series of graphic works, the project explores the role of the sheepdog as a mediator between the human and the animal. Set within the natural area of La Pedriza and the urban environment of Madrid, the research explores how the instinct, behaviour, and perception of these animals change according to the territory, and how these variations reflect different forms of adaptation, learning, and agency.

Grounded in contemporary animal ethics, the project reflects on the legal and symbolic conditions affecting working animals, and on how they are presented within current visual culture. Through a narrative that combines observation, recording, and landscape analysis, Mar questions the aesthetic role of the dog in contemporary society and proposes new forms of interspecies relationship.
