Iranian filmmaker Hadi Afarideh, whose documentary film sensitively shows the relevance of Persian oral tradition, will explain the different visual and oral narratives of his country. After the screening of Story of Gordafarid, he will speak about storytelling, the voice and the dramatic action of traditional Iranian stories; his work Face Reading will introduce the tradition of religious narrative in Iran and the different musical genres, and following his documentary Nowruz Magham (New Year’s Melody) he will talk about another style of Iranian oral narrative called Music State.

The work by Jay Bernard, nominated by The Guardian in 2004 as one of the United Kingdom’s most inspiring sixteen-year-olds, will be screened in this cycle. Thanks to the support of the British Council, it will also be possible to enjoy some of the best audiovisual poems being made today, such as Pink or Blue by Hollie McNish, The Realms of Possibility by Kayo Chingonyi, Heavyweight by Okwonga, A real poem by James Massiah, and And They Knew Light by Caleb Femi.
