ART WEEK AT MATADERO

March 2–8

Matadero Madrid, a contemporary creation space run by the Department of Culture, Tourism and Sport, will host a wide-ranging and diverse program of activities from March 2 to 8, coinciding with Art Week and extending to the days before and after. During this time, Madrid will also be home to major art fairs such as the 45th edition of ARCOmadrid, CAN Art Fair Madrid (formerly UVNT Art Fair), the international fair dedicated to collectible design Forma Design Fair, and the contemporary art fair Art Madrid.

Exhibitions, talks, film screenings, meetings with artists, and open days will shape a program created to connect the centers’ work with both locals and visitors.

Program of activities:

  • Artist Mónica Mays will intervene in Nave 0 at Matadero with Pulgar, a site-specific project as part of the “Abierto x Obras” program.
  • The Artistic Residencies Center will open its doors to present the work of residents in visual arts, music, education, and research.
  • Cineteca Madrid will present a special program including the premiere of Albert Serra’s latest work, dedicated to Tàpies, as well as Paul McCarthy’s performative audiovisual piece A&E.
  • Two leading figures in curatorial practice, Estrella de Diego and Germán Labrador, will have carte blanche to reflect on the connections between film and art at Cineteca.
  • Plaza Matadero will host the 10th edition of CAN Art Fair Madrid (formerly URVNT Fair) from March 5 to 8.
  • FORMA Design Fair, the international fair dedicated to collectible design, will make its debut at Nave Una in Matadero from March 4 to 8.
