Jo Caimo

Exciting Research: Making a Party. Residency in collaboration with Medialab-Matadero

Exciting Research: Making a Party is an ongoing research project by the artist Jo Caimo that uses a device called MOODY® - a piece of jewellery/pendant that registers ear temperature -  to measure and visualise people’s arousal levels. By also measuring the distances between people, it will give us data to visualise the collective energy, which fluctuates and changes shape and colour.

BIO

Jo Caimo is a visual artist and collective thinker as well as an inventor or objects and instruments. His work straddles the intersection of performance art, music, product development, installation and the digital world. He asks the audience to take part in several of his pieces by performing, wearing a device of their own design and simply being themselves. He explores the “collective” as opposed to the “internal”. He develops efficient measurement tools and platforms to better understand the unconscious patterns and mechanisms at work in co-creation processes.

Pieter Steyaert (BE), Nassim Verbraegen (BE) & Frederico Sena (BR) are working with him in the Exciting Research project to further develop and open source the code, while Jorge Guevara (CO) is responsible for the performative art side of things, and for raising awareness of the politics underlying such devices.
